IT Academy STEP Cambodia received a prestigious international award in the EQUALS in TECH Award 2020 for the organization and successful implementation of the first programming club for girls in Cambodia - Sisters of Code. Among 360 submitted projects from around the world, this educational program was highly praised by the jury from UN Women, UN Information Technology Unit, GSMA, United Nations University, and International Trade Center.   In 2019, IT Academy STEP Cambodia founded the Sisters of Code  coding club for girls aged 10 to 20 in partnership with the  Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in Cambodia. Please meet Rattana Sokunthyda, who is 19 y.o. and is year 1 student at the Computer Graphics and Design department with IT Academy STEP Cambodia. We have asked her to share her opinion about studying with IT Academy STEP Cambodia.   Why did you chose to study this major? Graphic Design has the two qualities I want to explore academically: intellectuel/logical and creative/artistic, where most majors rarely have a good balance of both.  It challenges a student to develop their artistic skills to create something that's not only attractive but also useful in the modern world. And the best part is that you are encouraged to challenge the norms, as long as your methods works.   What do you think, makes the Academy special? I choose to study this major because I love to express myself with my creations and I love drawing so I plan to improve my skills. What do you think, makes the Academy special? IT Academy STEP is special because I'll only have to spend 2,5 years to study here and learn skills that can help my employment. What do you like most in the Academy? What I like most about the Academy is that it has a mart which I can grab quick snacks or drinks anytime. Ok, that is a joke :-) What do you wish to tell to other Cambodian students who are thinking of studying here? I would wish students to be more confident and just join the Academy. If you’re new to programming, it might seem like there’s so much information to learn. You might wonder, how do programmers remember all of those concepts, functions, and details?  Do programmers memorise everything?   Do you need to be a genius to become a programmer? Is programming a special skill that can be only learned by very smart students with strong mathematical skills?   Here is our TOP 5 tips to help you:    Take notes when you are learning. As you learn new concepts, write down what goals they help you to accomplish. Write down all questions that appears in your mind while you study anything new in programming.  Whenever you make mistakes, write what you did wrong, why it was wrong, and what you will do differently next time.  Learn from other people’s codes: you can check websites and apps code, join programmers communities to learn from others. But do not just copy-paste. Try to understand why and how the code works! Don't use
