STEP IT Academy | We have been teaching since 1999. High-quality IT-education for adults and children. We prepare programmers, designers and system engineers who cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence. In order to achieve this, we teach how to understand tasks, run projects and work in a team, in addition to core knowledge.

You do not need a computer science degree or a genius-level brain to become a software developer in Cambodia. You need a plan, a few hours a week you can protect, and enough patience to keep going after your code breaks for the fifth time in one evening.
Phnom Penh's tech sector is still young. Banks, telecoms, startups and agencies are hiring people who can build software, and many are hiring juniors because the senior talent pool is small. That is an opening. Here is an honest roadmap.
Step 1: Pick One Language and Stay With It
The most common beginner mistake is switching languages every three weeks. Pick one and go deep for at least six months.
Python is the friendliest starting point. The syntax reads almost like English; it is used everywhere in AI and data work, and you can build something useful within a few weeks. JavaScript is the alternative if you want to see results in a browser immediately.
Whichever you choose, learn the same fundamentals: variab
Searching for IT courses in Phnom Penh can feel overwhelming. Every school promises a bright future in tech, but programs differ enormously in depth, recognition, and what you can actually do when you finish.
Here is a quick guide to choosing well, plus a look at the four professional diploma programs opening at IT Academy STEP Cambodia for 2026/2027, with the first classes starting this November.
4 Things to Check Before You Enroll
Accreditation. A certificate is only as valuable as the institution behind it. Look for MoEYS accreditation and diplomas you can officially verify.
Portfolio, not just exams. Employers care more about what you can build than what you scored. The best programs end every term with a real project: a website, an app, a brand book, a dashboard.
Starts from zero. A well-designed program requires no IT background. Finishing high school and basic English should be enough.
Real tools, flexible schedule. You should learn industry-standard softwa
You just finished high school. Now what?
IT Academy STEP Cambodia is now accepting applications for the Academic Year 2026–2027. We offer four Professional Diploma programs, each 2.5 years long, each designed around what employers in Cambodia and beyond are hiring for right now.
No prior tech experience required. In the first term, all students go through English for IT and digital skills foundation courses. These are built into the program so that no student is left behind, whatever their starting point.
What Is a Professional Diploma, and Why Does It Matter?
Many students finishing high school face the same choice: a 4-year university degree that costs more and often does not lead to a job in the field, or vocational training that leads to low-paying work. Neither option tells you clearly what the job market actually wants.
A Professional Diploma from IT Academy STEP Institute is a different path. It is not a local certificate. It is issued by IT Step Institute,
On July 4, our STEP Olympic Branch was packed. 67 students showed up for our free workshop, AI Tools for 3D Animation and Product Design. By the end, one thing was clear: everyone wanted to know how AI is changing the way 3D artists work.
If you missed it, here is what went down.
A Session That Actually Kept You Awake
The workshop was led by Mr. Aleksei Brunov, and he kept it fun. Instead of reading off slides, he built things live. Students watched every step happen in real time, including the mistakes and the fixes.
But the best part was not the tech. It was learning where AI helps, where it fails, and why you still need real skill to get a good result.
AI Can Start the Job. It Cannot Finish It.
Here is the lesson that surprised most students. AI is amazing at the first step. You type one sentence and a rough 3D model shows up in minutes. Work that used to take days now takes seconds.
But open that model and the problem shows up fast. The shape is mes
