In today's fast-paced world of technology, staying skilled up is crucial, whether you're an individual or a whole country. That's why the Australia Awards Short Course on Skills Forecasting for the Fourth Industrial Revolution brought together 24 people from 7 Southeast Asian countries, including Cambodia, to learn how to predict future job skills and stay ahead of the curve.

Mr.Khim Sarun, Education Department Director from IT Academy STEP Institute, was selected as the only participant from Cambodia to participate in a two-week program in Australia. Through cultural immersion and industry exposure, Mr.Sarun gained valuable insights to predict future skill demands.

The program offered valuable lessons for the participants. Visits to TVET institutions in Brisbane, Canberra, and the stunning Gold Coast provided practical insights. The program also included informative visits to key industry players like Job Skills Australia and the National Careers Institute, alongside enriching cultural experiences at Parliament House and the beautiful Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This trip gave a unique opportunity for the participants to learn from leading international practices, share ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of the local culture.

After returning home with all this information, Mr.Sarun is prepared to make a positive impact such as:

  1. Help make smart decisions: His knowledge will be used to create good policies and plans to prepare Cambodia's workers for the future.

  2. Improve education and training: He will make sure schools and training programs teach the skills people will need in the future.

  3. Work together: The connections he makes will help Southeast Asian countries and Australia share ideas and solve problems together when it comes to developing skills.

Here are some valuable resources from the course to help you navigate your journey:

  • Careers Bullseyes: This resource provides diagrams that show what subjects you can study in school and the different careers you can have with those subjects. It also shows what level of education you need for different careers.

IT Graduate Employment in Cambodia: STEP Results 2025–2026

97% of STEP Cambodia graduates with confirmed status are working. See employers, salaries and real career stories from the 2025–2026 cohorts.

Choosing where to study is a major decision. Most schools explain what students will learn. Far fewer publish what happens after graduation: whether graduates find work, where they are employed, and how their careers develop. At IT Academy STEP Cambodia, we follow up with graduates after they complete their programs. Our 2025–2026 graduate employment data covers students from the 2.5-year Software Development and Computer Graphics & Design Professional Programs. The results show strong employment across both fields, and real career progression from junior roles and freelance projects to specialist and management positions.   97% of graduates are working, and many are employed even before graduation  We asked our graduates in 2025 and 2026 if they are employed, and 97% confirmed that they are working in companies, government institutions or as independent professionals. Some others continue their studies in other educational institutions and cannot yet start working full

Digital Business and AI: Inside STEP's Newest Professional Diploma Program

Inside the STEP Digital Business and AI course Cambodia has been waiting for: what you study each term, the careers it leads to, and who the program is built for.

Every company in Phnom Penh is being told to "use AI." Very few have people who actually know how. That gap is exactly what the Digital Business and Artificial Intelligence diploma at IT Academy STEP Institute was built to close. It is the newest of our four professional diploma programs, and the only digital business and AI course Cambodia offers where artificial intelligence is not one module at the end. It runs through all five terms, applied to real business work.   Who This Program Is Actually For This is not a programming degree. If you want to build software, the Software Development diploma is your path. DBAI is for the person who wants to sit between business and technology. You enjoy solving problems, working with people, and making decisions with evidence rather than guesses. You want to understand data, marketing, operations and AI well enough to lead a project, not just complete a task.   What You Study, Term by Term The program runs 2.5 years acr

How to Become a Software Developer in Cambodia (No Experience Needed)

A practical guide to become a software developer in Cambodia with no experience: what to learn first, what juniors actually earn, and how long it really takes.

You do not need a computer science degree or a genius-level brain to become a software developer in Cambodia. You need a plan, a few hours a week you can protect, and enough patience to keep going after your code breaks for the fifth time in one evening. Phnom Penh's tech sector is still young. Banks, telecoms, startups and agencies are hiring people who can build software, and many are hiring juniors because the senior talent pool is small. That is an opening. Here is an honest roadmap.   Step 1: Pick One Language and Stay With It The most common beginner mistake is switching languages every three weeks. Pick one and go deep for at least six months. Python is the friendliest starting point. The syntax reads almost like English; it is used everywhere in AI and data work, and you can build something useful within a few weeks. JavaScript is the alternative if you want to see results in a browser immediately. Whichever you choose, learn the same fundamentals: variab

Here is a quick guide to choosing well, plus a look at the four professional diploma programs opening at IT Academy STEP Cambodia for 2026/2027, with the first classes starting this November.   4 Things to Check Before You Enroll Accreditation. A certificate is only as valuable as the institution behind it. Look for MoEYS accreditation and diplomas you can officially verify. Portfolio, not just exams. Employers care more about what you can build than what you scored. The best programs end every term with a real project: a website, an app, a brand book, a dashboard. Starts from zero. A well-designed program requires no IT background. Finishing high school and basic English should be enough. Real tools, flexible schedule. You should learn industry-standard softwa
