On July 4, our STEP Olympic Branch was packed. 67 students showed up for our free workshop, AI Tools for 3D Animation and Product Design. By the end, one thing was clear: everyone wanted to know how AI is changing the way 3D artists work.
If you missed it, here is what went down.
A Session That Actually Kept You Awake
The workshop was led by Mr. Aleksei Brunov, and he kept it fun. Instead of reading off slides, he built things live. Students watched every step happen in real time, including the mistakes and the fixes.
But the best part was not the tech. It was learning where AI helps, where it fails, and why you still need real skill to get a good result.
AI Can Start the Job. It Cannot Finish It.
Here is the lesson that surprised most students. AI is amazing at the first step. You type one sentence and a rough 3D model shows up in minutes. Work that used to take days now takes seconds.
But open that model and the problem shows up fast. The shape is messy, the textures break, and a lot of tools make you pay just to export. So AI gives you a draft, not a finished product. A lot of students walked in expecting a magic button and walked out understanding how the real process works.
Turning a Rough Draft Into Something Clean
The second half showed what pros actually do. Mr. Brunov took a rough AI model into proper 3D software, cleaned it up, added real materials, and made it look ready to sell.
Animation worked the same way. Students saw how you can capture movement with just a webcam, then fix it by hand so it looks natural instead of stiff and robotic. The tools are only as good as the person using them.
Why This Matters If You Live in Cambodia
3D design is growing fast, and local talent can compete with the rest of the world. Learning to mix AI speed with real 3D skill gives young designers a serious edge, especially fresh high school grads looking for a way in.
Workshops like this are an easy first step. They are free, you do not need any experience to watch and learn, and it is the best way to find out if this path fits you.
