Neth Sothy joined IT Academy STEP Cambodia with a passion for creativity and a desire to build a career in design. Today, he works as a UX/UI Designer at a bank in Phnom Penh and also takes on freelance projects in UX/UI Design and Graphic Design, a testament to the strong foundation he built during his studies.
“The academy’s modern international curriculum tailored for the digital industry is what I like most,” Sothy shares. “We studied three days a week with two additional days for self-study, which gave us plenty of time to work on class assignments and improve our skills. The teachers were amazing, they had a lot of experience and provided the best explanations.”
Sothy initially worked in marketing but realized it wasn’t his true calling. He decided to pivot and pursue UX/UI Design, drawn by his love for creating new things and expressing creativity. His journey at IT Academy STEP was marked by hands-on learning and a focus on industry-relevant projects.
“Compared to other institutions or universities, IT Academy STEP focuses on project-based learning for the digital industry,” he explains. “The small class sizes, only about 10-15 students per class, made it easier to understand the lessons, and the teachers were always approachable.”
Sothy also highlights the unique advantages of the academy’s programs. “In just 2.5 years, you’ll earn an international diploma from STEP and an associate degree from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. You also have the option to continue for a bachelor’s degree. The emphasis on teamwork and group projects at the academy helped me develop professional skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.”
We are proud of Sothy’s achievements and are excited to see him continue to grow as a designer. His story is a shining example of how IT Academy STEP Cambodia empowers students to turn their passions into rewarding careers in the digital industry.
